Being Obese Can Cause Aggressive Breast Cancer

More news on carrying too much weight. Being overweight is something doctors know how to up the risk of breast cancer which is under the influence of estrogen in women who have undergone menopause. There is new research that suggests an association between obesity after menopause and more aggressive form of breast cancer that is particularly difficult to treat.

There were an estimated 207,000 women diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States during 2010. Only 10-20% of all breast cancers are triple negative form that has been identified as a lack of estrogen, progesterone and HER2 protein expression. Although uncommon, this form of breast cancer is far more aggressive, and outlook is not as rosy as we'd like, mainly because of the lack of targeted treatments for this form. Biologically, this subtype of breast cancer is very different from other forms.

Researchers looked at data on 155,723 women who were part of the Women's Health Initiative. This is a large study of women after menopause, which began in 1993.Ispitanici were between 50 and 79 years and supplied information about their exercise habits, height and weight so that body mass index numbers can be calculated.

association is what scientists term "borderline" in terms of statistical significance, although Phipps believes that this is explained by the small number of cases in a particular piece of research.

The team also saw little connection between the more physically active and less risk of both (estrogen receptor-positive and triple-negative) breast cancers, and concluded that more exercise may help in terms of risk for these cancers. Being active will also help keep your weight under control, so it's a win-win.

Doctor know that after menopause, most estrogen in a woman's body comes from what she is fat, so that higher levels of fat, the body gets more exposure to this hormone. That is why experts have long accepted the relationship between carrying too much weight and estrogen positive breast cancer.

In fact, experts who reviewed the research, but did not participate in it believe that this latest research adds weight to the argument that obesity and cancer risk are not only the estrogen problem. It's more than cancer cells fed with estrogen, fat cells can only create an environment of cancer cells really like. Although we are all waiting for that fat in the body inert, come to find that fat cells are quite active

Obesity is also known to increase markers of inflammation, insulin and insulin-like growth factor, which are all perfectly capable of contributing to the development of breast cancer.

More work is needed, but the message about not being weight and keeping weight under control, all through your life, is a smart one, especially if you are concerned about the aggressive breast cancer.
